1st Symposium / The Mindscience of Reality
Presentation
The symposium, which will take place in Pisa on September 20-21 2017, will be the first of a series of events that have as common target the launch of the term “Mindscience” as an alternative to the term “Neuroscience”. In fact, the latter is more frequently used to indicate an approach to the investigation of the mental phenomena centered on the study of their neuronal correlates.
We believe that the study of Mind and Consciousness should proceed in parallel and in full synergy by unifying the third person approach, typical of Western Sciences, to the so called “first person” approach developed in the East and, in particular, in India, mainly based on introspection, meditation and contemplation.
For this reason we used the word Mindscience and we have invited to participate in the first edition of the Symposium the XIV Dalai Lama, which represents the utmost authority of a philosophical tradition that for 2500 years has placed the study of the Mind and its phenomena at the center of his attention.
The realization of the event in this form would not have been possible without the participation of the Istituto Lama Tzong Khapa, one of the main centers of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT).
The Chairmen:
Angelo Gemignani, Maurizio Iacono, Bruno Neri
